What is West Coast Swing
West Coast Swing (or WCS) is a social partnered dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It's defined by moving from stretch to compression and back that gives it an elastic look and feel. It's commonly danced in a straight line, or “slot”. We move in two-beat rhythms to a wide variety of music, including pop, blues, hip-hop, and funk. West Coast Swing gives both leads and follows room to improvise and express themselves.
Every WCS dance is a collaboration between leaders and followers.
Leaders: Ideal for those who enjoy planning and guiding the dance.
Followers: Perfect for those who love to interpret and flow with the music.
If both of these roles describe you, great! Many dancers dance both roles and love them for different reasons.
